Half Of Glastonbury 2009 Tickets Sold In 24 hours

Music fans snapped up over half the tickets for next year's Glastonbury festival as they went on sale earlier than ever yesterday (October 5th).

Organisers hope that by giving festivalgoers an eight month window more people will have the chance to a buy ticket for the festival next June.

A spokesperson for the event said they were “chuffed” by people's response - and stressed that they hadn't expected the event to sell out straight away.

"That would have been extraordinary, without a line-up and eight months before the event," he told the BBC.

The ticketing system allows fans who have pre-registered  to buy a full weekend ticket for the festival – priced at £175 – or reserve one for £50.

Unlike previous years, people have the option to buy as many tickets as they wish, as long as they are matched to specific registration numbers.

The festival will take place on Worthy Farm from June 26th-28th.

The headliners at next year's event are expected to be confirmed over the coming months, but organisers have already said that “it's not Coldplay, it's not U2 and it's not the Rolling Stones."
