More Bruce Springsteen
Danny Federici, Bruce Springsteen’s long time keyboard player, has died at the age of 58.
Federici, who had battled melanoma for the last three years, passed away at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre in New York yesterday (April 17th).
The popular keyboardist had helped to define the sound of the E Street Band during his 40 year career with Springsteen.
The pair last performed together during a show in Indianapolis last month.
In a message on his website, Springsteen described Federici as “the most wonderfully fluid keyboard player and a pure natural musician.”
“I loved him very much ... we grew up together," Springsteen added.
Federici, who was born in Flemington, N.J, first met Springsteen in the 1960s and was one of the founding members of the E Street Band.
The keyboardist had to temporarily leave the band last year in order to be treated for melanoma.
Springsteen has postponed two shows, in Fort Lauderdale today (April 18th) and Orlando tomorrow (April 19th), following the news.
