More James Brown
Five children of the late soul legend James Brwon are set to challenge his will according to new documents.
Most of Brown’s money was left to trusts set up to educate disadvantaged children which are now run by several of his former advisors.
However, Brown’s offspring Deanna Brown Thomas, Venisha Brown, Daryl Brown, Yamma Brown Lumar and Larry Brown say that the three advisors convinced Brown to set up the trusts so that they could benefit from the profits made from managing them.
However, one of the advisors, Buddy Dallas, has refuted the claims saying that Brown had set up the trusts of his own accord.
He said: "No-one told James Brown what to do," adding that if he wanted money he “would have just influenced him to give me something".
The Brown children’s lawyer Louis Levenson says that they have discovered early wills written by Brown which show he may not have wanted all his money to go to the trusts.
"There was sporadic indication that Mr Brown intended to benefit some charities, but the circumstances surrounding the making of these documents have always been clouded in mystery," he said.
